Theme For November Community Helpers andCareers

We are learning about people who help us. We are trying to make this topic more interesting by inviting parents and interesting people from the neighborhood to speak to the children. If you would like to come to school and talk about your work to the children it will be appreciated. At the moment we have a dentist, chef and nutritionist who are expected. We are looking for professionals or family and friends who can spare 15-30 minutes - carpenters, mechanics, moms, dads, policemen, engineers and others

Term 1 at Bright Sparks

In June we started the new academic year. We have now completed one term and looking back I have some great times that I would like to share with you. The seniors came in waiting to go back to their lessons and friends. In the first few weeks they were content to revisit the materials they had worked with last year. Slowly they began searching for the new toys and learning aids that had been added for the New Year. Every year we add new materials to our environment and also add new storybooks to the reading corner. The response we got to the new additions was big smiles and happy faces.
After our playgroup stopped bawling they have started to look forward to absorbing knowledge from all around the school. They are so curious and learn so fast, it’s amazing how they grasp concepts. They carry the same enthusiasm and energy to the play area where the minders get exhausted just watching them.
We had some special events this term – the colour week, Independence Day celebration, colouring contest and pet day.
The colour week as a hue success we were able to help almost all the children to learn about colour. It was effortless and fun, even the teachers participated. We would lie to thank all the parents who went out of their way to dress according to the planed colour themes. To show our appreciation we have uploaded clips from the colour week at http://youtube.com/user/brightsparks2010 we wanted to share some of the fun moments with you.
In August we sang the national anthem every morning – all the art work revolved around India. We made maps, hand printed peacocks and the tricolour. On Independence Day our students dressed as leaders and citizens from various parts of India. It was a joy to see their confidence as each one walked up and introduced him/ her self. We had Goans, Gujratis, Singh the king from Punjab, Nawabs of Hyderabad, Chacha Nehru, Kashmiris, Brides from Lucknow, Tipu Sultan and more. Video clips of the program are up on youtube. Do watch them and you can share them with friends and family. The program was a great learning opportunity for the students they experienced diversity in dress and culture. They had a chance to polish their speaking skills and I have to add that this group didn’t show any stage fright. Well done little stars!!
Our little ones took the colouring contest very seriously. They sat quietly and pondered over colour selection. Each one was concentrating and trying to keep within the lines. We noticed the improvements since June and realized the talent and potential of our students. Everyone made such an effort that they deserved a certificate for it. Our winners were Afra and Qidath who were tied at first place. You can visit the school to see all the completed entries along with the winners on the bulletin board.
The colouring contest coincided with Teachers Day - we’d like to thank you for all the roses. As it was a day to celebrate all the children were given lollipops.
We are headed for the first term break from 29th September to 12th October. Wising you and all the members of your family a very Happy Eid and Happy Dussehra. Have a restful holiday and be back full of energy for the new school term.
